Fujitsu Optical Components Limited (FOC) announced today the successful completion of the development of its 800Gbps CFP2-DCO coherent transceiver and the expansion of sales in the second half of fiscal year 2024. This newly developed 800Gbps CFP2-DCO is a pluggable optical transceiver capable of coherent DWDM transmission at 400Gbps, 600Gbps and 800Gbps with a flexible variety of client-side interfaces. It supports the standard CFP2 form factor, contributing to the realization of next-generation open systems.

800G CFP2-DCO Coherent Transceiver

Background and Overview

Against the backdrop of ever-increasing internet traffic, network service providers and data center operators continue to invest aggressively in infrastructure. This drives strong demand for higher bandwidth, lower cost, and lower power consumption in optical networks. FOC has consistently led the optical communications market by being the first to commercialize cutting-edge optical component products. Leveraging its unique device and optical packaging technologies, FOC has successfully developed and begun shipping the world's first pluggable coherent transceiver for metro use, capable of up to 800Gbps coherent transmission (800G CFP2-DCO). This product supports a variety of applications, including intra-data center, metro, and submarine communications, through a combination of modulation rates and formats. Compliant with the CFP2-MSA (Multi Source Agreement) standard form factor, it also enables simple and efficient system upgrades for existing infrastructure.

Key Features of the Product

FOC has achieved a high-performance, low-cost coherent transceiver by densely integrating its proprietary broadband and compact Thin Film LiNbO3 (TF-LN) modulator and silicon photonics receiver into the CFP2 form factor using its unique On Board Optics (OBO) technology. By taking advantage of the excellent transmission performance and low-loss characteristics of the TF-LN modulator, this product delivers high output power and high OSNR performance, enabling up to a 15% increase in transmission distance compared to previous generation products. Furthermore, the product supports a variety of modulation rates (128Gbaud, 64Gbaud), modulation formats (QPSK, 16QAM), Probabilistic Shaping (PS) modes, and Forward Error Correction (FEC), including flexible combinations of client-side interfaces (Ethernet, OTU4, OTUCn). These features allow customers to optimize transmission performance and power consumption for their specific deployment environments and applications.

FOC will continue to develop its Thin Film LN modulator technology and On Board Optics technology, which are advantageous for miniaturization and bandwidth expansion, with the aim of commercializing next-generation 1.6Tbps pluggable coherent transceivers.
